It’s a beautiful morning here at Shakespear Lodge!

This morning at the Year 5 camp was an adventure-packed experience! Here are a few snapshots.

The climbing wall was a hit, with students pushing past their fears and cheering each other on to reach the top.

Using UHT radios added a thrilling “mission” element to playing hide and seek, as students checked in and navigated around the lodge to locate each other.

Archery was another favourite—many tried it for the first time and managed to hit the target with focus and persistence.

Bush cooking was another hit with students making pancakes and sharing laughs around the fire.

It was an unforgettable morning of teamwork, confidence-building, and memories we’ll all cherish!

Kauri Camp is next week!

Calendar Art available soon!

Room 21 students worked hard on their artworks last term. We focused on using mathematical ideas of symmetry, rotation, translation and tessellation. Take a look and see what you think…

Can you tell what kind of patterns each student made?

Students will be bringing home information on how to purchase their calendar art shortly.

Room 20 Learning Maths Through Art: Exploring Tessellations

In Room 20, we’ve been teaching maths in a fun and creative way through art using tessellations. Tessellations are patterns of repeated shapes that fit together without gaps, like floor tiles or honeycombs. These designs help students understand key maths concepts like symmetry, shapes, and angles, all while creating beautiful art.

Learning maths through tessellations makes abstract ideas more hands-on and enjoyable. You can support this by encouraging your child to notice patterns in everyday life—like tiles or brick walls—and asking them about what they have been learning at school the last few weeks.

It’s a great way for students to build maths skills while expressing creativity!

These amazing art pieces have been selected for this year’s calendar art and would make a fantastic Christmas present. More information about this will follow.
